This photo was taken in a humble home in the Rif Mountains, in northern Morocco. The house belonged to a family that earned a living with agriculture and some goats. The architecture of the houses in the Rif is simple but keep a charm from another time. And the cat is a common element in these houses, their presence is essential to keep out small rodents who always try to lower stocks of stored grain. A house without a cat Rif would be doomed to failure, rodents would end up with grain and family would starve. So cats are well respected in these parts because they largely depend on families to eat throughout the year.
